1. Who we are
Can't Get Cover is operated from the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we are the "data controller" of any personal data you provide through this website.

2. What we collect, and when
When you use the matching tool
The matching tool is anonymous. We do not collect your name, email, IP address, driving licence number, address or postcode. The answers you give are used to generate your matches in your browser only and are not transmitted or stored on our servers — unless you choose to save them by submitting the interest form.
When you submit the interest form
You give us:
- First name
- Email address
- Mobile number (optional)
- Age band
- Postcode area (first part only — e.g. "M14")
- Why you're seeking insurance
- When you need cover
- Your written frustration with the insurance market (optional)
- How you found us (optional)
- The matching tool answers, if you used the tool first
We also automatically record:
- The date and time of your submission
- Which page on our site you submitted from
- Your consent to receive emails from us, with timestamp
Cookies and analytics
We do not use marketing cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party advertising trackers. We may use a privacy-respecting analytics tool (such as Plausible or Cloudflare Web Analytics) that records anonymous, aggregated visit data without using cookies and without identifying you personally.
3. Why we collect this data (lawful basis)
Under UK GDPR, we must have a "lawful basis" for processing your personal data. The bases we rely on are:
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) — when you tick the consent box on the interest form, you give us consent to email you about Can't Get Cover. You can withdraw this consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — for site security, fraud prevention, and the basic operation of the website.
We never rely on "legitimate interests" to send you marketing emails. That's always consent-based.
4. What we use your data for
Your data is used only to:
- Email you when we launch our full quote service
- Email you with relevant guides and updates if you've consented
- Understand which kinds of drivers we're attracting, so we can build the right service
- Improve the matching tool
We do not use your data to make automated decisions about you that have legal effects.
5. Who we share your data with
We do not sell your data. Ever.
We do not share your data with advertisers or unauthorised third parties for marketing purposes.
The third parties we share data with are limited to:
- Regulated insurance partners — when you click "Get a quote" on one of our partner pages (currently GoShorty for temporary cover, and Quotezone/Seopa Ltd for annual cover once activated), you are directed to that partner's own quote engine. The details you enter there are processed by the partner directly under their own privacy policy. Can't Get Cover does not collect, store or transmit those quote details — we only receive confirmation that you converted, so we can be paid our commission. - Our email service provider — used solely to send the emails you've consented to receive when registering interest via our website forms.
- Our hosting provider — which stores data on UK or EU servers.
- Law enforcement or regulators — if we are legally required to do so.
For clarity: any details you submit through our "register interest" forms are kept by Can't Get Cover only. We do not pass these to insurance partners without your separate explicit consent at the time we contact you.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your data until:
- You ask us to delete it, or
- Two years pass without any interaction from you (we will email you to ask if you'd like to stay on the list before deletion)
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — correct inaccurate data
- Erasure — ask us to delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Restriction — ask us to stop processing your data while we deal with a query
- Portability — receive your data in a portable format
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw consent — at any time, with no consequence

8. Children's data
The matching tool is intended for use by adults aged 18 or over, or by 17-year-olds with parental knowledge. The interest form requires consent and is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe we have collected data from someone under 16, please email us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We protect your data using industry-standard security including HTTPS encryption in transit, encrypted storage at rest, restricted access controls, and no transmission of data to third parties for marketing purposes. No system is 100% secure, but we take protection seriously.
10. Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please email us first — we'll always try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO):

11. Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes, we'll email everyone on our list and update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes affecting how we use your data will require fresh consent.
