Who we are
Can't Get Cover is a small, independent UK editorial team built around one observation: that millions of UK drivers get refused or punitively priced by mainstream comparison sites every year, with no clear path to the specialist insurers who would actually quote them fairly.
We're not insurance brokers. We don't sell policies. We act as an introducer to FCA-regulated quote partners — currently GoShorty for short-term cover, with Quotezone (Seopa Ltd) pending activation for annual cover. When you take out a policy via our partner links, we earn a small commission. The price you pay is identical to going direct — see our how we make money page for the full breakdown.
Our editorial standards
Every guide on this site follows a set of internal standards before publication:
- Factual accuracy. All claims about UK insurance, FCA regulation, DVLA procedures, and conviction code rules are sourced from primary sources (gov.uk, FCA register, ABI publications, DVLA guidance) and re-verified at each major update.
- UK-specific. We only publish content relevant to the UK market. Where a global term has a different meaning in the UK (e.g. "fronting" or "voided policy"), we use the UK definition.
- Plain English. No jargon, no insurance-industry euphemism. Every guide is written for someone who's just been refused by a comparison site and wants a clear answer.
- No commercial bias. We don't write copy to favour one quote partner over another. Our matching tool routes visitors based on situation fit, not commission rate.
- Honest about gaps. Where we don't know something, we say so. Where the UK rules are unsettled (e.g. EU licence holders post-Brexit), we say that too.
What we will never do
- Suggest you misrepresent yourself. The temptation to nudge a conviction date, fudge a postcode, or omit a modification exists on every quote form. We will never advise that. Insurance fraud voids policies, results in criminal records, and ruins lives.
- Sell your data. Details you submit via our register-interest forms stay with us. They are only passed to a partner if you actively click through to that partner's quote engine — and from that point you're under their terms, not ours.
- Hide our commercial relationships. Every partner we work with, and the typical commission we earn from them, is disclosed in full on our how we make money page.
- Recommend a partner because they pay us more. Our matching tool is based on which insurer panel is most likely to quote a particular situation fairly, not which one earns us the highest commission.
Editorial review process
Every page on this site goes through three checks before publication:
- Research draft. Topic researched against primary UK sources (gov.uk, FCA Register, ABI, DVLA guidance, recent industry publications). Initial draft written in plain English.
- Compliance review. Draft checked against FCA financial promotion rules (clear, fair, not misleading; substantiated claims; appropriate risk warnings). All commercial relationships disclosed.
- User-test edit. Final pass focuses on whether someone in the situation described would actually find the page useful — not whether it ranks for keywords.
Pages are reviewed and updated at least every 12 months, or sooner if UK rules or market practice change materially.

Who reviews this site for accuracy?
The Can't Get Cover editorial team operates as a collective — all guides are jointly reviewed and signed off by the team rather than by named individuals. As we grow, we expect to publish named author bios with the relevant professional credentials. Until then, the "editorial team" byline on every guide reflects collective review, not anonymity.
If you're researching a specific page's accuracy for citation or fact-checking, email editorial@cantgetcover.co.uk with the URL and we'll respond with the underlying source list.
